Question : 6 [SSC CGL Prelim 2002]

Divide 7,500 among A, B and C such that A’s share to B’s share is in ratio 5 : 2 and B’s share to C’s share is in the ratio 7 : 13. How much will B receive?

a) 2,600

b) 7,000

c) 3,500

d) 1,400

Answer: (d)

A : B = 5 : 2

B : C = 7 : 13

A : B : C = 5 × 7 : 2 × 7 : 2 × 13

= 35 : 14 : 26

Sum of the ratios

= 35 + 14 + 26 = 75

Total amount = Rs.7500

B’s share = Rs.$14/75 × 7500$ = Rs.1400

Question : 7 [SSC MTS 2013]

738 is divided among A, B, C so that their shares are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 4. B’s share is

a) 264

b) 164

c) 246

d) 328

Answer: (c)

B's share

= $3/(2 + 3 + 4) × 738$

= $3/9 × 738$ = Rs.246

Question : 8 [SSC MTS 2013]

A sum of 53 is divided among A, B and C in such a way that A gets 7 more than what B gets and B gets 8 more than what C gets. The ratio of their share is

a) 18 : 25 : 10

b) 15 : 8 : 30

c) 25 : 18 : 10

d) 16 : 9 : 18

Answer: (c)

B = C + 8

A = C + 8 + 7 = C + 15

C + 15 + C + 8 + C = 53

3C + 23 = 53

3C = 53 - 23 = 30

C = Rs.10

B = C + 8 = 10 + 8 = Rs.18

A = C + 15 = 10 + 15 = Rs.25

A : B : C = 25 : 18 : 10

Question : 9 [SSC CGL Tier-I 2014]

3,000 is divided between A, B and C, so that A receives 1 3 as much as B and C together receive and B receives 2 3 as much as A and C together receive. Then the share of C is

a) 1,625

b) 1,050

c) 525

d) 600

Answer: (b)

A = $1/3$(B + C)

3A = B + C...(i)

B = $2/3$(A + C)

3B = 2A + 2C ...(ii)

From equation (i),

3A = B + C

9A = 3B + 3C

9A = 2A + 2C + 3C

7A = 5C ...(iii)

From equation (ii),

3B = $2({5C}/7)$ + 2C

21B = 10C + 14C

21B = 24C

7B = 8C ...(iv)

From equations (iii) and (iv),

C = ${7A}/5 = {7B}/8$

$A/5 = B/8 = C/7$

C’s share

= $7/(5 + 8 + 7) × 3000$

= Rs.$(7/20 × 3000)$ = Rs.1050

Question : 10 [SSC CGL Tier-II 2013]

900 is divided among A, B, C; the division is such that 1 2 of A's money = 1 3 of B's money = 1 4 of C's money. Find the amount (in ) received by A, B, C.

a) 200, 300, 400

b) 400, 150, 350

c) 350, 450, 100

d) 300, 400, 200

Answer: (a)

A × $1/2 = B × 1/3 = C × 1/4$

$A/2 = B/3 = C/4$

A : B : C = 2 : 3 : 4

A ⇒ $2/9 × 900$ = Rs.200

B ⇒ $3/9 × 900$ = Rs.300

C ⇒ $4/9 × 900$ = Rs.400
